Intendis and Kythera launch cooperation in aesthetic dermatology segment

Bayer HealthCare’s dermatology business Intendis and KYTHERA Biopharmaceuticals have signed a licensing and development agreement to jointly develop a new adipolytic agent (ATX-101). The first-in-class drug is designed to reduce localized fat under the chin after being injected. more

Revolution in the bedroom

The little tablet was as big as a lentil and as green as a pea: At the beginning of the 1960s, Bayer Schering Pharma launched Anovlar®, its first oral contraceptive, in Europe and Australia. Packed in silvery aluminium foil, the “anti-baby” pill allowed women for the first time to enjoy their sexuality and to decide themselves whether they would like to have children and, if so, when and how many. Neither Einstein’s theory of relativity nor the Internet has influenced the world and modern society like this medical innovation. This year, the pill celebrates its 50th anniversary. more

Renal Cancer Journalists’ Award 2011

Renal cell carcinoma is one of the most common cancers worldwide. However, there still is a lack of awareness of the disease. Bayer HealthCare and the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) have therefore announced the European “Advances in Renal Cancer” Journalists’ Award 2011. The prize honors journalistic work, in which journalists cover the issue of renal cancer in a critical, but yet objective manner.

The miracle drug

Verdi’s famous opera La traviata and Aspirin® have one thing in common: both of them had their first major appearance on March 6. Giuseppe Verdi celebrated the premiere of his masterpiece in Venice in 1853, while Bayer’s Aspirin® brand was registered under number 36433 in the list of trade names at the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin in 1899. While the opera initially flopped and only later brought its composer fame and fortune, the drug of the century went from strength to strength from the very first day and celebrated an unparalleled career. more

In April, Bayer Schering Pharma hosted a media roundtable “New insight into safety and effectiveness of testosterone therapy” at the 25th Annual Congress of the European Association of Urology (EAU) in Barcelona, Spain. The press event highlighted the importance and low awareness of Testosterone Deficiency Syndrome (TDS) in men. A select number of medical journalists viewed presentations by experts in the TDS and Erectile Dysfunction (ED) field and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with them and ask critical questions. more

Mastering MS – patients need support

Treating multiple sclerosis means more than just optimizing existing therapies, but also offering physicians and patients support and a complete help network including the latest information about the disease. To raise awareness for the broad and deep impact MS can have, Bayer Schering Pharma has developed a global campaign called “Mastering MS”. It educates about the visible and hidden symptoms of MS, the importance of early treatment as well as seeking additional help if needed. more

ACT Study 2009

New data confirming the serious health and economic consequences of aspirin underutilization in the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) were presented at a press conference held by Bayer Schering Pharma at the ESC Congress 2009. Experts discussed new results from the ACT study in the context of other recent research on low-dose aspirin in the prevention of CVD, and emphasized the need to broaden the use of aspirin therapy to help reduce the global burden of deaths and disability due to CVD. more

European Nutritionals Press Workshop

European adults and adolescents often do not get the essential vitamins and minerals needed from their diet, even if it is well-balanced. This is the consensus shared by scientists in the field of micronutrient research, who came together in April 2009 at the university of Madrid for the first European Nutritionals Press Workshop organized by Bayer HealthCare. The experts provided more than 50 media representatives from fifteen European countries with an update on current micronutrient research. more
